The 2012 Hayne Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has an enticing aroma of red and black fruits. Wild berry and cherry are pronounced on the palate, while a hint of earth and graphite adds interest. Char and spice from the French oak pairs beautifully with the supple fruit, while the velvety, yet firm, texture carries this wine into a lengthy finish. This wine is remarkably balanced and shows beautifully even in its youth.

Located in Western St. Helena near the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, the vineyard is composed of the Cortina soil series.
The Hayne Vineyard is situated in St. Helena at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains and is well known for its single-vineyard wines from the site. The vines are moderate in size due to the gravelly, loam soils and the vineyard produces small yields. The warm St. Helena temperatures are ideal for producing sweet, jammy fruit and this vineyard tends to be picked at the beginning of harvest each year. Nickel & Nickel produces wine from nine acres.
September 27 – October 2, 2012
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
12 – 15 days
18 months in French oak
An ideal 2012 growing season with warm days and cool, foggy nights offered the perfect conditions for fruit and tannin maturity. There were no heat spikes this year, so flavor development was at its peak. These vines are naturally balanced, so adequate exposure was achieved with very little leaf pulling. Bloom and veraison occurred two weeks ahead of last year and the fruit ripened quickly in St. Helena’s warm climate. This fruit was night harvested with over a five day window under the direction and participation of the Hayne family themselves. Their love and involvement shines in every bottle.
