The 2013 Beatty Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon offers beautiful aromas of cassis and tapenade. This wine has a forward ripeness filled with exotic flavors of cassis, green olive, basil and pepper. This rich flavor profile is in harmony with plush, coating tannins that expand through the middle palate to offer a finely contoured finish.

Clone 7 on 119R rootstock and clones 169, 191 and 337 on 101-14 rootstock
Vertical shoot positioning (VSP)
Beatty Ranch is comprised of rocky, red soils from the Aiken series and has a northern and southern exposure.
Located atop Howell Mountain, Beatty Ranch typically gets to enjoy the warmth of the sun when summer fog lines the valley floor. While the fruit ripens easily, we must wait for mature tannins to emerge. The red, rocky soils are ideal to produce moderate-sized vines, and this vineyard is comprised of four different clones that each provide a unique flavor profile to the overall wine.
October 5 – 23, 2013
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
9- 10 days
18 months in French oak
Howell Mountain experiences a different weather pattern from the valley floor, so the growing season starts and ends much later than our other vineyards. This season in general started about seven days ahead of last year and this year we added two more blocks with different clones to increase production. The older blocks set a heavy crop so the vines required minor thinning. The summer temperatures ideally ripened the fruit, and we waited patiently until mid-October to harvest. Beatty Ranch was the last vineyard to be harvested this vintage.
