The beauty of this vineyard shines in the 2014 Truchard Vineyard Chardonnay. Tropical aromas of peach, fig and Meyer lemon lead to flavors of pear, pineapple and vanilla. Toasted oak notes and a hint of minerality complement the fruit. The creamy texture and balanced acidity give weight and richness to the midpalate, which carries its flavors through a long, lingering finish.

Chardonnay clones: 4, 76, 95 and 96 on four rootstocks:
This vineyard is predominately a neutral, gravelly loam from the Felton soil series, which are well-drained soils formed from weathered sandstone and shale.
Truchard Vineyard lies in the heart of Carneros, prized for its rolling hills, sun exposure and cool, breezy conditions that allow long, even ripening. Nickel & Nickel makes wine from fourteen select acres of this 270-acre vineyard, composed of volcanic ash and rock with a southwestern exposure. The growing season tends to be long in this cooler area, allowing for fully mature fruit at harvest.

10 months in French oak
2014 was another beautiful growing season with a warm spring leading to an early bud break and bloom. Despite the low rainfall, the vines produced healthy canopies and a normal cropload with slightly larger berries. The summer months were moderate, which offered perfect ripening conditions. This vineyard has both east- and west-facing blocks and the west-facing hills were the first to be harvested this vintage. The addition of a lower block extended the harvest window, but contributed new fruit flavors to the wine, adding more depth and complexity.
