A stunning pop of red fruit—the signature of this vineyard—opens this decadent, concentrated vintage. The 2015 Quicksilver has slightly darker fruit flavors than its preceding vintage while still retaining the juicy cherry and plum notes we have to come to love from this western Rutherford site. Elegant floral notes and a mouthwatering natural acidity brightens the palate while rich tannins carry the flavors into a long, persistent finish.
Bale clay loam from Quicksilver Vineyard
Rutherford, Napa Valley
This Rutherford vineyard consists of a well-drained Bale clay loam.
The Quicksilver Vineyard lies on the western Rutherford bench, in the acclaimed area on Bella Oaks Lane. The soils are predominantly well drained loams that produce vines of moderate size. These older vines were planted to the California sprawl system, with wider spacing and a divided canopy, giving great exposure to the fruit. Minimal irrigation is needed to obtain maximum fruit potential.
September 16 – 17, 2015
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
10 – 12 days
16 months in French oak
An early March budbreak and May bloom gave us small crop loads. Throughout the growing season, we made small modifications to adjust shoot positioning and open up the canopy, which allowed just the right amount of dappled light to reach the fruit. We pulled leaves in the center of each around the fruiting zone to further allow ideal sun exposure. Fruit showed beautiful maturity by mid-September, and we harvested two weeks ahead of the previous year’s schedule, with fruit fermented exclusively in closed-top tanks.
