The 2016 Element 28 Cabernet Sauvignon presents ample amounts of plum and blackberry fruits, surrounded by notes of clove, vanilla, and cardamom. The refined composition of fine-grained tannins, pure dark fruit flavors, light earthiness, and a wonderful natural acidity form an exceptionally balanced profile that render a wine enjoyable now and for many years to come.

This site offers a western exposure and is planted on gravelly Haire loam.
Element 28 is named by the owner of the vineyard, Erik Nickel, who ingeniously came up with the name Element 28 “nickel” on the periodic table. Located high in the hills across from Lake Hennessey, this vineyard has a western exposure and is comprised of shallow, gravelly loam soils that produce small vines with loose clusters and small berries.

The 2016 growing season proceeded as usual for Napa Valley with a nice spring that led to a warm summer. Budbreak was about five days later than last year and this trend continued throughout the season. Slightly cooler weather in May lengthened the bloom window but warm summer days in June and July helped the vines catch up to normal. The crop looked good with clusters that had a nice leaf coverage allowing for speckled light. August brought both cool and hot weather, so we kept a close eye on each block.
