Situated at the toe of an alluvial fan that extends from the western Mayacamas range, the vineyard is comprised of fluvial river deposits and clay loam soil from the Bale soil series, which are developed on alluvial fans and flood plains.
Vaca Vista Vineyard sits upon the valley floor in the Oak Knoll District and is our debut Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in the appellation, set against a scenic backdrop of the Vaca Mountains to the east. The vineyard’s well-drained, gravelly soils and moderate climate provide even ripening, resulting in this structured and polished Cabernet Sauvignon.

The year began with a cold and much-needed wet winter, followed by a mild spring. April showers following budbreak resulted in hearty vine growth that only accelerated with the summer sun. The vineyards enjoyed a brief cooling period in August before a final heat spike over Labor Day weekend. The cool weather that immediately followed gave our fruit additional hang-time on the vine continuing phenolic development.
