Crafted to capture the concentrated fruit and rich tannins of Kenefick Ranch's prized vines, this full-bodied wine "reminds us," says our winemaker, "that great Cabernet can be both pretty and powerful."
Deep and texture-driven, this Calistoga Cabernet commands attention with its blackberry and floral perfume, dark fruit flavors and savory undertones. Ripe black cherry and blackberry front load the palate, while coating tannins and notes of tobacco, cocoa and spice unfold on the midpalate and continue into a finish layered with dark, sappy-silky fruit.
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and was aged in French oak, 50% new, for 18 months. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with a slightly broody nose of tar, new leather and damp soil, but soon gives way to an expressive core of blackcurrant pastilles, blackberry pie and stewed plums plus a hint of Sichuan pepper. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers bags of earth-laced black fruits with grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with a peppery kick. —Lisa Perrotti-BrownWine Advocate
